STEPRI Organizes Validation Workshop

Gender 1  Gender 2  Gender 3

As part of activities under the “Gender Responsive Agricultural Extension Delivery for Improved Agricultural Productivity in Northern Ghana” project, the research team from CSIR-STEPRI, led by its leader Dr. Wilhelmina Quaye and comprising of Mr. Masahudu Fuseini and Mr. Paul Boadu conducted a workshop on the 1st of December, 2016 at the Catholic Guest House Conference Room in Tamale to validate the findings the project.

One of the strategies to improve agricultural productivity is to enhance access to extension services, the study was therefore conducted to support evidence-based policy making. This study is part of measures to address productivity improvement under the Food Security and Emergency Preparedness in FASDEP II/METASIP II.

The research focused on the gender dimensions of some selected interventions in the three Northern Regions of Ghana. The study assessed two main case studies (i) Women Extension Volunteer (WEV) Approach and (ii) Agricultural Development and Value Chain Enhancement (ADVANCE) Program that mainstream gender in the implementation activities to reach more female farmers with extension delivery and other rural advisory services.

The workshop was attended by policy makers and value chain actors included representative from USAID Ghana Feed the Future project, Directors and Extension Officers from District Agricultural Development Units in the surveyed locations, farmers, processors, aggregators, traders, agro-input dealers and transporters. The final output of the study will soon be disseminated in the form of project reports, policy briefs and journal publications.
